Niles, Ohio — A City with Deep Roots
Niles, Ohio carries real historical weight. It is the birthplace of President William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States — and the city has never let anyone forget it. The McKinley Memorial Birthplace Home on South Main Street has been drawing visitors and keeping local pride alive for well over a century. Niles is a city that knows who it is.
Like much of Trumbull County, Niles was built on steel, manufacturing, and the kind of work-hard, show-up culture that defines northeastern Ohio. Republic Steel, Sharon Steel, and the broader industrial valley shaped the identity of every community in this corridor — including Niles. Those values have not gone anywhere. You still feel them in the way the city rallies around Niles McKinley Red Dragons athletics, in the way neighbors look out for each other, and in the way a diner like Raptis can stay packed for nearly four decades without spending a dime on advertising.
Raptis Family Restaurant opened in 1987 in Howland Township, just up the road from Niles. We were built on the same values — honest food, fair prices, a family behind the counter who remembers your order. We have been serving Niles families for so long that we have gone from feeding parents to feeding their kids, and in some cases their grandkids. That kind of continuity does not happen by accident.
Niles and Howland Township have always been neighbors in the truest sense — connected by Niles-Cortland Road, by shared Trumbull County geography, and by communities that value the same things. When Niles families want a sit-down breakfast or a real burger made by someone who cares, a short drive up Niles-Cortland Road has been the answer since 1987.
Niles & Raptis — Connected by Community
- Shared County, Shared Values: Niles and Howland are both Trumbull County communities with the same working-class roots and pride in local institutions.
- Niles McKinley Red Dragons: On game days and tournament weekends, Niles families are already heading west — and Raptis is right on the way.
- The Route Connection: Niles-Cortland Road links both communities end to end — the same road that runs through downtown Niles runs right past our front door.
- Greek Heritage in Ohio: Raptis is a Greek family restaurant — authentic gyros, Greek omelets, and Greek salads that reflect the same immigrant work ethic that helped build cities like Niles.
